JDK Leadership & Management Capacity Building Program™
Building Confident Leaders. Strengthening Organizations. Supporting Indigenous Self-Determination.
Most managers are promoted because they are good at their jobs. Few are given the practical tools, mentorship, and support required to become effective leaders.
The JDK Leadership & Management Capacity Program is designed to help emerging leaders, managers, directors, and senior administrative leaders strengthen their confidence, communication skills, decision-making abilities, and organizational effectiveness.
Grounded in Indigenous values, relationship-based practice, and practical real-world experience, the program combines coaching, mentorship, problem-solving, accountability support, and leadership development to help leaders navigate the complex realities of today's workplaces.
Unlike traditional executive coaching programs, JDK's approach focuses on practical implementation. Participants receive support to address real workplace challenges while building the tangible skills and confidence needed for long-term success.
The JDK Leadership Development Model
The JDK Leadership & Management Capacity Program is grounded in a consistent leadership development process designed to create meaningful and lasting behavioural change. While each participant's goals and challenges are unique, all coaching and advisory services follow the same developmental pathway:
1. Understand the Leader and Their Context
We begin by exploring the leader's role, responsibilities, relationships, organizational environment, strengths, and current challenges. This provides the foundation for meaningful and relevant development.
2. Identify Development Priorities
Together, we identify the leadership competencies, behaviours, and workplace challenges that will have the greatest impact on the leader's effectiveness and the success of their organization.
3. Build Awareness and Insight
Participants develop a deeper understanding of their leadership style, communication patterns, decision-making approaches, assumptions, strengths, and areas for growth. This stage encourages self-awareness and reflection as the foundation for change.
4. Apply Learning to Real Workplace Situations
Leadership development is integrated into day-to-day work. Participants apply new skills and approaches to real challenges such as team leadership, conflict management, performance conversations, strategic planning, relationship building, and organizational change.
5. Reflect, Receive Feedback, and Strengthen Accountability
Through regular coaching and mentorship conversations, participants reflect on their experiences, receive constructive feedback, evaluate outcomes, and strengthen accountability for their development goals.
6. Measure Progress and Sustain Growth
The program emphasizes continuous growth by celebrating successes, identifying emerging development needs, and ensuring new leadership behaviours become embedded in practice over time.
Learning Methods and Supports
Development may be supported through a combination of:
One-on-one coaching and mentorship
Leadership self-assessments and reflection tools
360-degree feedback processes
Leadership development plans
Practical workplace assignments and action learning
Skills-based learning modules and resources
Peer learning and facilitated discussions
Observation, role-playing, and scenario-based coaching
Reflection journals and accountability check-ins
This approach ensures that participants not only gain new knowledge, but also develop the self-awareness, behaviours, and practical skills required to become effective and confident leaders in their organizations.

The JDK Difference
Most coaching firms provide a coach.
JDK provides a leadership bench.
What makes the program distinctive is that the bench operates within a shared JDK development framework. Participants do not simply receive access to experienced advisors; they move through a purposeful process of role-context review, goal setting, leadership awareness, practice, reflection, feedback, accountability, and progress tracking.
Our clients gain access to senior advisors with extensive experience in:
Indigenous governance
Executive leadership
Human resources
Strategic planning
Organizational development

Drawing upon the collective experience of professionals such as Senior Advisor Barbara Bowes, Senior Consultants Ron Brown, Howard Burston, Rob Penner, Tammie Sorensen and JDK Founder and CEO Jennifer Keith, along with other JDK advisors, clients receive practical guidance grounded in real-world leadership experience.
